Huddled next to Germany on France's eastern border, Alsace is a charming region with its own mountain range, thriving wine market, beautiful ancient towns and heady blend of French-German cuisine. It's certainly something special. And its event calendar is no different - featuring a fantastic [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] blend of fairs, festivals and long-standing traditions that are testament to its lively history and diverse culture. The Alsace calendar of events is a celebration of its culture, ranging from food and wine festivals to contemporary art fairs, music, and even a wedding that brings a 19th century folk story to life. Alsace has a long memory and its colourful events bring its history to life in some of the most spectacular and joyous ways possible.
We've picked out ten of our favourites - but there are plenty more on offer. So come along to Alsace, grab a kugelhopf and experience some of the yearly highlights that this beautiful and wonderfully diverse region has to offer.
1) [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Alsace Eco-Bio Fair, Colmar
8th - 12th May 2013
When it comes to food, the French - and particularly the Alsatians - know how to please the palate. But they're also becoming renowned for organic produce too, and Colmar's Eco-Bio Fair shows off the best side of this emerging market. Over 400 exhibitors converge on the Parc des Exposition for five days of workshops, wine tastings (part of France's biggest organic Wine fair), organic cooking demonstrations, debates, talks, shows, games, entertainment [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and more. Rest assured, you'll never look at supermarket produce the same way again.
2) Kugelhopf Festival, Ribeauvillé
June 2013 (date TBC)
Every year, the beautiful walled town of Ribeauvillé hosts a festival dedicated to the sticky delights of kugelhopf - a sweet spongy cake that's usually formed into a ring shape. Also known as gugelhupf or gugelhopf, this tasty treat is celebrated in the Kugelhopf Festival when the streets of Ribeauvillé come alive with all manners of different tastings, cooking demonstrations and competitions. Try kugelhopf in its many forms, or just enjoy a slab in the traditional way - dunked into your morning coffee.

2nd - 14th July 2013
Colmar's International Music Festival is one of the highlights of the Alsace calendar and is widely considered one of Europe's best classical music festivals. No less than 28 concerts take place across Colmar in a variety of venues including the Municipal Theatre, Colmar Synagogue, the Church of St. Matthew, the Koïfhus [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the Chapel of St. Peter.
