The death has had place in the Pilgrim's Rest Nursing Home, Westport of Mr. Patrick Walsh, 18, The Paddock,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Newport Road,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Westport.
Popularly known as Paddy, he was son from the late Julia and Anthony Walsh, Gortnaclasser,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Clogher and was aged 91 years.
He was a fitter by occupation and commenced his working career in the Reliable Shoe Company in Westport from the foundation in the 1930's until it closed within the late 1970's. He also worked in Governey's Shoe Factory in Carlow along with the Trethorn Company in Portlaoise. Following his retirement in 1986 he lived briefly in Ahascragh, County Galway before moving to Kilmeena, Westport. His final move was to the Paddock in Westport. The last eight months of his life were spent in the Pilgrims Rest.
Paddy's hobbies in everyday life were gardening, football and cars and he had a passionate interest in the 3.
He will be very sadly missed by his wife Kathleen, sons Tony (Gortnaclasser, Clogher), and John (Belvedere Jesuit College, Dublin),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], brother Mike Walsh (Knockranny,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Westport), sisters Bridget Foster (Herne Bay, Kent, England) and Kit O' Malley (Ballinrobe), nieces,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], nephews,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], neighbours and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Cåit (Ballinasloe). Following repose at McGings' Funeral Home, Westport, removal took place to Fahy Church where Fr. James Walsh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], PP, officiated in the reception ceremony. Large crowds gathered in the funeral home and church to sympathise with Paddy's wife and family.
The concelebrants of his funeral Mass were Fr. James Walsh and Fr. Karl Burns, Westport. Members of the family took part in the funeral liturgy, reading the lessons and prayers of the faithful and bearing the offertory gifts to the altar. In the Mass homily many tributes were paid to Paddy for his devotion to his family,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his strong work ethic and his deep faith.
